Los Arboles Update

Sometimes changes mean a lot of little things need to get done.

Well once my lawyer informed me that it would cost to much to defend my trademark name issue with Linden Lab®, I started looking for a new name. Then it was pointed out to me that I am spending more and more of my time in other virtual worlds beside Second Life® (freakin lawyers!). So the name needs to reflect this… so now I have no idea about getting a name.

Then an offer to join forces with a couple of “smart” friends, which in turn got us to review the purpose of Los Arboles (established December 2006). Now the purpose of this sim has been three fold up to this time; 1) a place that demonstrates the company’s building abilities, 2) to have a place for community activities and 3) a place to build projects (build platform high in the sky) for our clients.

After reviewing the current look of the place, I was given a couple of suggestions about the sim. They were as follows:

  1. Focus the sim to mainly build demos
  2. Build out “class room”
  3. Enhance “show room”
  4. Create a “business park”
  5. Add multiple looks

As part of this effort, both Cheerie (Jen) and Mirror (Dave) have played a part. Currently we have done the following work (in about three nights):

  • Update and revamped the former SL Brand office to include a 15 seat class room, an expanded show room, a “Virtual Earth” room and some work rooms. Also adding an elevator and a “sky” platform / fun area. Most of the textures were developed by Cheerie. It is about 90% complete as I write this.
  • The “Los Arboles Playhouse” remains as is. It is intended to be a “video” show room / art house.
  • The Pirate town remains as a build demo.
  • Rich Desoto’s brick octagon house remains as a build demo.
  • We have developed a “office park” as a demo area so we can show people what a clustered office build out looks like.
  • We will be keeping the “Meditation Park” (the Asian-influenced park area). It is an example of nature.
  • The surf area will remain.
  • The area near the Pizza Area / Night Owl is used for Santa Cruz demo. It is a running gag at the local IP place were I am teaching a “Second Life” class. I am also begining to offer other virtual world classes.

A couple of pictures below of the build to date. More to come.
