Olympics and other thoughts

Olympics

I admit that I have been watching the Olympics, being a big fan of beach and indoor volleyball. I also enjoy the swimming and rowing events. This week I will watch track and field and pretend that none of them use performance enhancing drugs.

Michael Phelps – wow

Dara Torres – making me feel inadequate on so many levels

American Woman’s Softball team – freaking brilliant

May-Treanor and Walsh dominating in Woman’s Volleyball. 106 straight victories as I write this.

Jamaicans and sprints – fast

I can not stand the “judged” events, especially gymnastics and diving. There is to much room for cheating by the judges — oh?!? have we all forgotten the pairs ice skating from Salt Lake City?!?

Olympics and TV

But as a Left Coaster, I am completely pissed off at NBC and their freaking three hour delayed “Live” broadcast. If it is taped delayed, how is if live?

And if I want to pretend the event is live on the Left Coast, starting at 5 pm PST, I can not go anywhere near any other sources of information. This just drives me nuts. I am addicted to checking in every few hours with my Google News updates. But for the 17 odd days of the “Live” Olypmics I have to stay away from my computer and my text messages.

Now with Track and Field events starting, I have to avoid all information. Already I have had the 100 meters sprints ruined.

I have checked out the live streaming from the NBC website and have enjoyed that.

Olympics and the metaverse

Over at World of Warcraft, they have gotten into the Olympic spirit by encouraging one and all to go out and kill. So I did.
