Why I Love Tateru Nino

August 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Working in Second Life has it rewards and trials. There are good days and bad days. Hell it is bleeding edge technology.

Now I believe with all of my soul that Linden Lab makes every attempt to provide a good working grid, but the complexity of this world makes 100% testing impossible. Things are going to happen. Like they say, shit happens, especially on Sundays. — Never heard that one, then you have not been in SL on a Sunday!

But for one, I would like them to be more forth coming on grid issues, especially when they role out new features, such as the long awaited Mono. So when problems started to occur last Sunday, I was not sure if it was because of Mono, or some other issue.

This is why I love Tateru Nino over at Massively. She gets the info on the Mono role out.

That didn’t lead to the disaster on Sunday. For that, blame a failed drive on one of the grid’s utility servers (handling part of the presence system among other things).

Nevertheless, by Tuesday this week (26 August) 1.24.1 was replaced by 1.24.2. That still didn’t apparently make the cut, we don’t know why.

I also enjoyed her recent blog entry concerning the lack of blogging being done by Linden Lab employees. Worth a read, though I am not entirely sure it is because of the selling. More likely people might be waiting on direction from the new CEO.

So if you want to know what really is going on with the Second Life Grid, read Tateru Nino!

Side Note

Tateru is from Forestville, Australia. You can also follow her on Plurk and / or Twitter.  Link to her personal blog.
