One of my many hobbies – or is it just a quirk? – is that I like to identify locations in movies and televisions. Basically, while I am watching movies and or television, I try to identify the location that they are shooting in and then list in my head where has it been used in other programs. I love looking at how visual pictures are put together and how the same area can be used for different looks and needs.
If you ever visit me in Santa Cruz, I can take you on a “sight-seeing” tour of Lost Boys, Dirty Harry; Sudden Impact, Creator and Killer Klowns from Outer Space locations. In Sudden Impact, the memorable chase scene in the Santa Cruz downtown business district offers a rare glimpse of the area before it was devastated by the Loma Prieta earthquake of October 17, 1989. In Lost Boys, there is a scene where an attractive street-woman is seen crawling into a garbage bin and then is given some money by the main characters. That “street-woman” happened to be my college housemate. In Creator, much of the film was done both in downtown Santa Cruz and up at UCSC.
I could go on and on, but today the subject is on the Mr. T World of Warcraft commercial. Yes, my quirk has collided with my geek! World of Warcraft made a commercial last year featuring Mr. T. This commercial has been running for a second time recently. While watching it the other day, I realized that I “knew” where they filmed the commercial. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it was filmed in World of Warcraft, but can you figure out where? Here is the commercial for your review:
Answers on the next page:
If you look closely, you can see a buring tower in the background as Mr. T rides the white tiger called a Frost Saber.
The Answer:
The shot of Mr. T was filmed in the Terokkan Forest, near the Raastok Glade. The tower is just outside of the Allerican Stronghold. Note the picture of Bananadoo near the burning tower. (Opposite side of the river from where Mr. T was filmed.)
How is that for geeky!
