Bananadoo in Age of Conan (level 22)

The gang at MMS decided that we needed a new game to play. Our problem is that we all wanted a game with a playing experience similar to World of Watcraft in terms of being well executed and fully developed. Now it’s been more than four years since Blizzard unleashed World of Warcraft, and since then no other MMORPG has even come close in terms of popularity and lasting appeal. Yet all of us have at least three 80 level toons and have become bored with the grind of raids.
While I was intrigued by Eve, I found the amount of time needed was way more than I could dedicate or justify. For others at MMS, notably Jen, they could not get into complexity of the game. I heard Jen mutter that she was lonely in space.
As for Spore, all four of us just felt that while really ambitious and beautifully done, it just never fully developed. I usually enjoy strategy games, but there are better ones out there.
And we had long ago abandoned Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean as being to simple and finding the story line not that immersive. Good fun for teens but not “serious” gamers like us. (lol)
So I suggested Age of Conan which at first was not received with any enthusiasm. Then both Jen and Dorothy saw it on The Big Bang Theory and they were intrigued. As for Mike, his only opinion was as long as he could kill something he was fine. So Age of Conan was selected on Sunday.
A couple of initial impressions with the game:
- I did the digital download which took almost 26 hours. Installation requires way to much “computer knowledge” for some I bet.
- I had to update my NVIDIA drivers in order to play it.
- Once downloaded, it took three hours to install – WTF?!?
- So far I have been pleasantly surprised with the game. I had heard about the problems with the game, especially when it rolled out last July.
- The graphics are impressive. I bet most computers have a problems with them. The burden on your system is the main issue that will hold you back from having a great time in this game.
- Character creation is well done with plenty of tweaks to buff out your toon but you are limited to only humans.
- The user interface (which interests me the most) is very similar to World of Warcraft.
- I have heard that the first 20 levels are the most developed. It took me approximately 12 hours to go from1 to 20. I will admit I screwed around a lot.
- The initial story line is immersive and worth taking the time to read (this first 20 levels the story line is in audio).

I will post more once I spend more time in Age of Conan but my initial rating is 4 1/2 bananas! (scale of 5)
