Traditionally Saturday night is date night in Bananaverse as my better half and I try to make sure we have time alone together. It has been Saturday since before we were married almost 15 years ago.
Before I started my pub (open 97-03), we would go out to dinner at different places in town. When I had my pub, we found going out to be at time difficult due to “friends” reactions when the saw us. Some people felt guilty that they were at the same place eating versus supporting the pub. We even had an experience where a dissatisfied customer berated us about the service he had received. (The owner of place ran over to defend us.) After a while, it became easier just to make a nice dinner at home, then maybe going out for a movie or to a local book store.
After we sold the pub, we started going out more but I found that I would get frustrated easily by poor service. My better half would get upset with the pricing. So the last few years date night has changed to the point were we do not go out. Since neither of us have much free time, we found that just staying home with dinner and movie was great. And with Netflix, getting the movies has become real easy.
As I am writing this, it is just a little after 4 pm on Saturday and soon date night will begin. I am looking forward to it!
