Los Arboles Update

Los Arboles January 2009

Old January Look

Back in January of this year, I started a rebuild of Los Arboles.  While I liked most of my work, I was never happy with the art-deco bridge and escalator and the whole MMS office look and layout just never did it for me.  But with limited time available in January, I just lived with the builds.

Over the next few months, I tried to tweak the build to make it look better but it just did not come together. And the freakin escalators were just was lame and not visually stimulating, nor did they add any appeal.  Upon further reflection, the bridge and the building looked stupid.  Or more to the point, it look down right freakin horrible and the whole point of my two sims is to demonstrate that I have some abilty to develop content in Second Life.   Jeez, no wonder I have not been getting any in-world leads or introductions.

Then yesterday, Saturday, April 18th at a little past noon, I decided that I no longer could look at that bridge or office any longer.  They must go or I will go insane!

So five minutes later they were gone.  Ah, the beauty of virtual worlds….

Then came the interesting part.  What should I replace them with?   So many choices but so little time.   I could not just leave the space empty, that would even be lamer.  I needed to build and it had to be done quickly!

So I gave myself the following check list.

  • I had to keep the waterway open for the Five Island boat service that Crap Mariner had developed (I love the boat!).
  • I had to complete the major work in less than 24 hours (busy weeks ahead).
  • I needed something that would not overwhelm Los Arboles (trees!).
  • The MMS area had to be clean and easy to use (it pays the bills).
  • I also wanted to tie the bridge and the MMS pavilion together both in look and feel.
  • It had to follow my strict prim and texture practices.
  • And it had to be interesting and compelling build and easy to navigate.

I decided I wanted to bring back an old concept that I had worked on but never completed.  Basically the concept is an “organic / natural” looking use of metal and open pavilion.  As of 24 hours, I can say that I got the major parts completed and I am rather pleased with the initial effort.  I will be spending a few more hours inside the pavilion to make it more interactive.  Of course, there are tweaks here and there that are needed but that is always true.

Please stop by and check it out.
