It has been a long time in planning but the house remodel finally – after five years of talking about it – is about to begin. How do I know?
#1 – After getting a remodel budget that my better half could live with in these economic times, we applied for a house refinance that will take what we owed which was less than 75K, and we have upped our loan to $200K now. So we have after fees and blah blah blah, a little over $120K. Now the bid came in at $98K, so we have a comfortable cushion for any additional work.
This loan was approved on Monday.
#2 – Tony Armor from Tony Armor Construction stopped by today and put up both the permit from the City of Santa Cruz and his company construction sign. Plus he also put down a cone where the Emo Princess Susie Playhouse will be located. Others call it the Outhouse / Porta-Potty, but I prefer EPSP for short.
The work begins in real next Monday, October 5th. The project will cover complete knock down of old kitchen, 1/2 bath and laundry room. We are lowering the floor so it matches the height of the rest of the house. For some reason it was a 1/4 step higher which made for nice tripping area. The kitchen gets the full remodel including cabinets, counters, flooring, windows, doors and new vaulted ceiling. The 1/2 bath and laundry area will have changes including sliding pocket door, utility cabinets and more.
Other items that will be addressed are taking the windows in the living room and dinning room and updating them to two panes and making them functional again will keeping the existing “cottage wood” look. The front of the house, where the entrance deck was rebuilt two years ago, will finally get new drought resistant plants and new picket fence. We will also do some work on the back landscaping depending on the budget.
