House Remodel – Post #4 – Day One

Day One was completed yesterday at 4:30 pm.  Incredible amount of demolition was accomplished by Tony and three other top notch dudes.  The day started promptly at 8:30 am and activity started with boxing of the kitchen, moving of appliances and relocating our kitchen into our dinning room.  By 10:30 am, they were ready to start ripping apart the kitchen.  And rip out they did.

As you look at the pictures, please realize that the next big step is ripping out all of the sub-flooring in order to lower the kitchen about 3/4 inch in order for it to match the rest of the house.  To me, that looks like a lot of work.

When checking the ceiling, realize that we will be vaulting the kitchen area in order to open up the space.  The wall that connects to the laundry / 1/2 bath will be extended up and the doorway will be “rounded” to match the entrance into the kitchen from the dinning room.

On a side note, it was a tough day on Mr. Muggins and K2.  Mr. Muggins had to spend the day locked up in the home office with me, though he was able to watch the happenings out the window.  K2 just ran to the “safety” of the Dude Shack to nap away.

As I write this, day 2 is beginning and K2 has run away. Stay tuned for more updates.
