House Remodel – Post #6

Just a couple of items from yesterday of note.

Floor has been lowered which was a huge project but effectively done in one day.   Turns out when the remodel in 1994 was done, the foundation was poured to high which resulted in the floor being 1 3/4 inches higher than the rest of the house.

So the solution was simple in concept but lots of work that I am glad I had professionals doing.  They put down some new cement foundation piers, then cut out the entire floor framework, then lowered it.

Wood rot was found where the old dishwasher was located at the floor level and lower.  Most likely this was a result of a long term leak that was discovered in 2006.  They are going to cut this section out and replaced stucco on the outside.  Not a huge issue.

The front yard’s picket fence was demolished yesterday.  The guy doing it told me he enjoyed knocking things down.  Watching him smile as he whacked away was amusing.  Then watching Mr. Muggins investigate the area afterward was equally amusing.

Overall the project is progressing quicker than we all thought which is good.  The new kitchen cabinets, sink, faucet have been ordered.  Once we get a sample of the wood stain – we will be looking at three shades – then we will pick out the top and the back splash tile.  Then comes flooring and blah blah blah.  Lots still to do.
