Updated June 8, 2010
October 1, 2010, we started remodeling the house that we have lived in for over 16 years. Here are some pictures and information.
Phase 1 (October 2009 – January 2010)
- Kitchen / 1/2 Bath / Laundry
- Main Contractor – Armor Construction and Design (831.427.9248) website
Summary: The back of the house includes a kitchen, 1/2 bath and laundry closet that had been remodeled in 1994 by the previous owner. Everything needed to be ripped out and rebuilt including lowering of the floor to match the rest of the house (for some reason the kitchen was 3/4 inch higher), new vaulted ceiling, cheery wood cabinets, quartz counter top, tile and lots more. We did not hire a designer, instead we worked with Tony on the layout and look. Tony and his crew were great throughout the project keeping up with communications, expenses and keeping the site clean. Plus he brought in a porta-potty which I wanted to keep at the end, though my better half over ruled that idea.

Phase 2 (March 2010 – May 2010)
Eight new dual pane windows / Repaint living, dinning, and hallway
- Contractor Windows – Armor Construction and Design (831.427.9248) website
- Painting Contractor – Courtney Painting (831.733.8283)
Summary: Phase 2 of our remodel started simply as replacing a few windows, then it turned into “doing it right” project. We ended up replacing the last 8 windows in the house that were not dual pane which included those in the living room (2), dinning room (2), master bedroom (2) and my office (2). Once that was completed, we wanted to paint the living room, dinning room and hallway.
Once again we selected Tony for the construction which included removal, enlarging one window, installing the eight new dual pane windows and molding. As you can see, the new windows look great.
For the painting, Cinna had gotten a recommendation for Courtney Painting and we were very happy about it. Brian did a professional and outstanding job. We are very happy with his work.

Phase 3 (February 2010 – June 2010)
New Driveway / New Picket fence / Plants / New Paint on front of house and deck /refinish deck / refinish front door
Summary: Phase 3 sounds easy, just landscape the house, or in this phase, the front of the house. Then reality set in. The only thing we knew was that we wanted a drought tolerant yard, easy to maintain and a new driveway.
Phase 3 included the initial landscape design work which was done by Jerob Chop of Terra Nova which took about two months to get completed. At the end, we had a real understanding of what the area would look like once the plants grew out.
Then began the bid process which took about a month.
Brian of Courtney Painting handled the deck and front of the house painting which was done with professionalism. We are very happy with his work.
The driveway work was done by KB Concrete who did an amazing job. The professionalism of the crew was amazing, the speed of completion was outstanding, and the work was first-rate in every way.
Tony Armor was back with the picket fence installation and we love the job he did. The craftmanship is once again A number one! Tony subbed the painting of the fence to Brian, who once again did an outstanding job.
Next up was Terra Nova with the planting, irrigation, mulch and boulders. This process took longer than promised but the results are good.
